One of the fundamental purposes of Winsor Music is the Development of New Repertoire. Seeking to expand the chamber music repertoire, especially for the oboe, Winsor Music has initiated the following projects:
• Transcription of existing works to include oboe
By recasting of some of the great music of the past, Winsor Music gives the oboe a more viable role in chamber music life. The goal of these transcriptions is not only to provide more repertoire for the oboe, but to expose audiences to works which are seldom heard.
• Commissioning of new chamber works for oboe
By commissioning important American composers, Winsor Music has established itself as an advocate of new music. Commissioning program sponsors new works in several ways:
The Winsor Music Consortium Project is designed to enable collaborative commissions by oboists, chamber music ensembles and series sponsors.
The Premiere Project utilizes money that is donated from time to time specifically for small-scale commissions. Works in this category are premiered on the Winsor Music Chamber Series.
Songs for the Spirit is a project that works in conjunction with multi-faith organizations. Winsor Music commissions a chorale for one concert a year to be played by the performers and taught to the audience. Although the texts will be chosen by the composer, Winsor Music’s goal is ultimately to create a collection of hymns on the themes of tolerance, peace and unity.
